Plant Information & Management System (PIMS) FOR HUBCO Power

Project Overview

Client/End User: HUBCO Limited
Location: Karachi, Narrowal and Islamabad, Pakistan
Start Date: May 2016
End Date: Mar 2017

Project Scope

The Scope of Work includes the detailed design, development, supply, delivery and commissioning of the HUBCO PIMS System.180 days or 6 months from project start to FAT.
Plant information and management system, also known as dashboards or PIMS serve as a framework for integrating key performance information and processes across organizational boundaries. It provides a secure unified access point often in the form of a web-based user interface, and is designed to aggregate and personalize information through application-specific portals. One of the major challenges of implementing this particular plant management system was to gather all the massive process information from each plant but also to have them directed to the head office. In general, most PIMS are plant-wide systems and not always cross-assets wide and remotely.

Avanceon designed a solution based on Rockwell Automation Factory Talk vantage point which was installed at HUBCO Head office and plant site. Avanceon PIMs solution provides monitoring screens and historians to manage the information load from each of the three plants.

• FactoryTalk Vantage Point
• FactoryTalk Historian Server
• CISCO Firewall

HUBCO operates three major plants, the HUB plant, the Narrowal plant as well as the Laraib Plant. The Hub power station is one of the first and largest Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Pakistan to be financed by the private sector in Southern Asia.
The power plant which is located in HUB generates 1292 MW. The Narowal power plant, located 150km North East from Lahore, generates 225MW. The independent power producer of Pakistan owns 74.95% Laraib, which located near Islamabad and generates 84 MW. The HUB power station generates 1292 MW. It is also the first and largest power station to have been financed by the private sector in Southern Asia during the 1990s.

The PIM system now manages and monitor the process information of the three plants from the HUBCO head office based on the KPIs established with the IPP during the initial stages of the project. The proposed system adopted the most recent technology standards including ANSI, ASCII, EIA, ISA, IEEE, NEC as well as NEMA.
The breakthrough IIoT system was successfully interconnected across HUBCO plants and head office as shown in few of the PIMs dashboards attached.
